Meet Ashley

My name is Ashley Shelton, and I am a Registered Psychology Associate (#A0839) in the state of Maryland working under the supervision of Dr. Dan Isenberg, Licensed Psychologist. I earned my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology from Stevenson University, followed by a Master of Science (M.S.) in Psychology and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical Psychology. I am currently in my 5th year completing my doctoral training in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) at Stevenson University.

Throughout my clinical training, I have provided psychotherapy and psychological assessments in a variety of outpatient settings. My experiences have included working with adolescents, young adults, and adults presenting with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions, stress, grief, and identity-related concerns. These experiences have strengthened my appreciation for providing individualized, culturally responsive care that recognizes each client's unique experiences and strengths.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to the individual. I believe that therapy offers an opportunity to better understand ourselves, our relationships, and the experiences that have shaped us. Whether a client is seeking support during a difficult time, looking to develop new coping strategies, or hoping to gain greater insight into longstanding patterns, I strive to create a space where they feel heard, respected, and supported throughout the therapeutic process.

I value approaching each client with empathy, authenticity, and cultural humility. I believe that every individual brings their own strengths, values, and lived experiences into therapy, and I work to ensure that treatment reflects each person's unique goals while fostering meaningful and lasting change.

My Mission

To provide a collaborative, compassionate, and culturally responsive therapeutic space where clients feel understood, empowered, and supported in creating meaningful and lasting change.

My Theoretical Approach

I take an integrative approach to psychotherapy that is grounded in psychodynamic principles while recognizing that there is no single approach that is appropriate for every individual.

I believe that understanding how our past experiences, relationships, and emotional patterns influence our present lives can foster greater self-awareness and create opportunities for meaningful growth.

Because each client brings unique experiences and goals to therapy, I tailor treatment to meet their individual needs. In addition to my psychodynamic foundation, I incorporate evidence-based interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My goal is to help clients gain insight into their experiences while also developing practical strategies that support emotional well-being and lasting change.

Above all, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of treatment. I strive to create a warm, accepting, and collaborative environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult experiences, strengthening their resilience, and working toward the life they want to build.
